The COVID-19 pandemic is changing life as we know it for millions of people. Many are facing having to work from home, while older people are finding that they need to isolate themselves until the situation clears up a little. But what about those people who are set you buy or sell a home? Suddenly, it might seem as though your ideal move is on a permanent hold.
But is this always going to be the case? At the time of writing, the UK remains in a lockdown situation. Thankfully, the government has published advice on what to do and what to expect during this time.
The official word from the government is that home moves can still go ahead if you are in the middle of making arrangements. However, as with all daily activities during lockdown, you are advised to be extremely careful.
You should therefore still follow through on your sale as far as you wish. However, do be careful to observe when you can and can’t leave your property. As it stands, the British government advises that you should only leave your home for essential purposes, or for daily exercise.
This, of course, might make things difficult for you if you are close to moving in. Therefore, it is well worth planning ahead.
If you’re at the end of the sales process, official government advice is to consider setting a date for your move for after lockdown procedures end. But when will this be? At the time of writing, it seems that a staggered approach to relieving lockdown may occur towards the end of May.
Therefore, it may be worthwhile considering completing your move towards the summer. This way, you can make sure that you, your family, and others are keeping safe.
As a responsible moving company, we must advise that setting a date to move after the pandemic is the best choice to make. While you may be looking forward to moving, there is simply no need to risk the health of others during this time.
Moving home is always going to be exciting and even stressful in equal measure. The current pandemic conditions, unfortunately, might only help to make things more tense for you.
Therefore, it is a good idea to simply look forward to the big day – you have even more time to plan ahead! Many people who move home may wish for extra time to get planning – and it’s therefore worth looking at this period as a great chance to get ahead of the game.
As leading home move experts, we will be on hand to support you as soon as you need us. Therefore, we encourage you to keep pushing on with your home sale – and we will be more than happy to book you in for a move once the current crisis is over. For the time being, do stay safe – and try to stay indoors.
