Preparing for the First Few Days
To avoid having to open every box to find your essentials, it is highly recommended that you prepare a box or bag for the days immediately following your move.
Aside from the obvious - change of clothing, medications, and chargers for electrical devices - here are a few things you may what to consider including:
- Cleaning products such as:
- Sponges and rags
- Cleaning fluid or washing up liquid
- Paper towels and disposable wipes
- Large bin bags
- A hard bristle brush or some wire wool
- A few DIY pieces, for example:
- Extra lightbulbs
- A torch, or candles and matches
- A small toolkit including a hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, good scissors, and nails or screws
Food and refreshments:
Quick energy-boosting snacks and cool water are essential fuel to keep everyone going during the day. When it comes to the evening, you'll want something filling but easy to prepare. A quick way to make sure your fridge is stocked is to plan a grocery delivery, but if that isn't an option, you may want to make sure you have a few bits to hand
- Protein-packed snacks
- Soups
- Ready-made sandwiches
- Bottled water (infant-safe if necessary)
- Disposable plates and cutlery
- Paper cups or reusable water bottles
- A small saucepan
- A thermos with a hot beverage of choice
- Any baby food or milk, plus bottles or special cups
- Any pet food, plus pet bowls
- Bathroom basics
- Toothpaste, toothbrushes
- Shampoo and body wash
- Loofah
- Deodorant
- Lotion
- Towels
- Other essentials:
- Items for young children, such as nappies and wipes, toys and books, bottles and steriliser
- Items for pets, such as a bed, tank lights, litter tray, bowls, toy
- Essentials for older family members, such as eating aids, medications, extra clothing, hygiene products
